Urban Design is typically not a separate service from architecture, but it does include what has become a somewhat specialized field of study within architecture. River Streets birth was in our most bustling urban environment on the doorstep of Coolidge Park, Frazier Avenue, and the Northshore. When we moved our offices to the southside, we purposefully sought a new urban context which we could call home and work within. Our staff has experience in urban design, both the theory and the practice, from large scale master plans to smaller historical renovations. Urban design projects on the surface are very similar to the more common suburban projects, but the issues during design are typically more focused on pedestrian access, architectural and urban context, social responsibility, and often district-wide issues such as economic development and revitalization. We consider ourselves premier players in the realm of urban design in Chattanooga.
